Terms of Service

Safi exists to help you make better-informed personal decisions. Before you sign a lease, go on a date, or enter a business deal, we search publicly available records so you can walk in with the right questions to ask.

These terms are here to protect you and the people you check. They set out how Safi works, what we do with your data, and what you agree to when you use the service. Everything below is standard for a service like ours. No surprises, no fine print tricks.

One important thing to know: Safi only searches publicly available databases: government registries, court records, business filings, phone directories, and similar public sources. If information about someone isn't in those databases, we won't find it. A clean result means nothing came up in the sources we checked, not that there's nothing to find. That said, having some verified information is always better than going in with none, and Safi gives you a solid starting point for your own conversations.

Effective date: 22 March 2026 · Governing law: ADGM, Abu Dhabi Global Market, UAE, with US-specific provisions below

FCRA Notice: This report is for your personal information only. It is not a consumer report and cannot be used for hiring, credit, housing, or insurance decisions under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).

Who we are

Safi is operated by Safi Holdings Ltd, a company registered in ADGM (Abu Dhabi Global Market), UAE. When we say “Safi,” “we,” “us,” or “our,” we mean this entity and its affiliates.

Safi is a personal trust verification service. You give us a name and phone number, tell us why you're checking (date, landlord, contractor, etc.), and we search publicly available records to give you a report. That's it.

What you agree to

By creating an account, running a check, or using any part of Safi, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use Safi.

You must be at least 18 years old to use Safi.

What Safi is

Safi is a personal information service. We aggregate publicly available information from government registries, court databases, business filings, phone directories, and other public sources. We use AI to organise this information into a report that's easy to read.

Safi reports are for your personal reference only. They help you make informed personal decisions, like whether to sign a lease, go on a date, or enter a business deal.

What Safi is NOT

This section is critical. Please read it carefully.

Safi is NOT a Consumer Reporting Agency as defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq.). Safi does not provide “consumer reports” as defined by the FCRA.

You agree that you will NOT use Safi reports to make decisions about anyone's eligibility for:

  1. Employment or contracting: including hiring, firing, promotion, reassignment, retention, or any staffing decision. This applies to full-time employees, part-time employees, contractors, temporary workers, volunteers, gig workers, and any other worker classification.
  2. Credit or lending: including approving or denying credit applications, or setting credit terms.
  3. Insurance: including approving or denying insurance coverage, or setting premiums.
  4. Housing (as a landlord or property manager): including screening prospective tenants, making rental decisions, or evaluating rental applications. Note: checking YOUR OWN potential landlord before signing a lease is perfectly fine. That's what Safi is for.
  5. Any other purpose regulated by the FCRA: including any determination of eligibility for a benefit, service, or position on behalf of an organisation.

By running a check, you certify that:

  • You are using this report for personal purposes only.
  • You are NOT acting on behalf of an employer, landlord, insurer, lender, or any other organisation making eligibility decisions.
  • You will not use the information in this report for any purpose described above.
  • You understand that using this report for any FCRA-regulated purpose may violate federal law.

The tenant screening use case is not available to US users. If you are a landlord, property manager, or agent screening prospective tenants, you cannot use Safi for that purpose.

If we believe you're using Safi for a prohibited purpose, we will terminate your account immediately and without refund.

Accuracy and limitations

Safi searches publicly available records only. We check government registries, court databases, business filings, phone directories, sanctions lists, and other public sources. We do our best to find accurate information, but we can't guarantee that every piece of information is complete, accurate, or up to date.

  • Public records may contain errors. A court case listed under someone's name may belong to a different person with the same name.
  • Records may be outdated. A business license that was active when we checked may have expired since.
  • We may not find everything. If someone's information isn't in the public databases we check, it won't appear in our report. A clean result means nothing came up in our sources, not that there is nothing to find.
  • We do not access private accounts, sealed records, or any non-public information.
  • We are not a substitute for professional due diligence. For important legal, financial, or business decisions, consult a qualified professional.

That said, having verified information from public records is better than having none at all. Safi gives you a solid starting point for your own research and conversations.

You agree not to take any adverse action against anyone based solely on a Safi report. A Safi report is a starting point for your own research, not a final verdict.

FCRA disclaimer

Every Safi report delivered to US users includes this notice:

“This report is for your personal information only. It's not a consumer report and can't be used for hiring, credit, housing, or insurance decisions.”

This notice is not a formality. It reflects the legal nature of our service.

What you can't do

You agree not to:

  • Use Safi for any FCRA-regulated purpose (see above).
  • Use Safi to harass, stalk, threaten, or intimidate anyone.
  • Use Safi to discriminate against anyone based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
  • Share, publish, or redistribute Safi reports publicly (including on social media).
  • Attempt to access Safi's systems, data, or APIs without authorisation.
  • Create multiple accounts to circumvent the free check limit.
  • Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to access Safi.
  • Misrepresent your identity or purpose when using Safi.

How checks work

  1. You provide a name, phone number, and use case (why you're checking).
  2. We search publicly available sources: government registries, court databases, business filings, phone directories, and the open web.
  3. We use AI to organise findings into a report.
  4. You receive your report via the web and optionally via SMS or email.

Your first check is free. After that, you can purchase a single check or a monthly subscription.

Payments and subscriptions

Pricing (US):

  • Single check: $7.99
  • Monthly unlimited: $9.99/month

Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your payment card details. Stripe handles this.

Monthly subscriptions:

  • Billed monthly on the date you subscribed.
  • You can cancel anytime. You'll keep access until the end of your billing period.
  • If a payment fails, your account enters a “past due” state. You can view existing reports but can't run new checks until payment is resolved.

Refunds:

  • If a check fails due to a technical error on our end, we'll refund you or credit your account.
  • We do not offer refunds because you didn't like what a report said (or didn't say). The service is the search, not a guaranteed outcome.

Your data

What we collect: Your phone number (for authentication), the name and phone number of the person you're checking, and the use case you selected. We also collect standard analytics data (device type, pages visited) via Posthog.

How long we keep it: Check results are automatically deleted after 7 days. Your account information (phone number, payment history) is retained while your account is active.

We don't sell your data. Ever. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.

Intellectual property

Safi's name, logo, website, and report format are our property. You may not copy, reproduce, or create derivative works from our content without permission.

The information in a Safi report is sourced from public records. We don't claim ownership of public records. Our intellectual property is in the way we organise, analyse, and present that information.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • Safi provides information for personal reference only. We are not liable for any decisions you make based on our reports.
  • We are not responsible for errors in public records or third-party data sources.
  • Our total liability to you for any claims arising from your use of Safi is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months prior to the claim.
  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Safi, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from:

  • Your use of Safi in violation of these terms.
  • Your use of Safi reports for any FCRA-regulated purpose.
  • Any action you take against a third party based on a Safi report.
  • Any regulatory investigation, enforcement action, or legal proceeding resulting from your misuse of Safi.

Dispute resolution

Any dispute arising from these terms or your use of Safi will be resolved through binding arbitration under the rules of the ADGM Arbitration Centre, unless you opt out within 30 days of creating your account by emailing legal@getsafi.ai.

For US users, you retain any rights under applicable state consumer protection laws that cannot be waived by contract.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you via email or an in-app notice at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of Safi after the effective date means you accept the updated terms.

Severability

If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

Entire agreement

These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Safi regarding your use of the service. They supersede any prior agreements, communications, or understandings, whether written or oral, relating to the subject matter of these terms.

No waiver

Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these terms will not be considered a waiver of that right or provision. Any waiver of any provision of these terms will be effective only if in writing and signed by Safi.

Assignment

You may not assign or transfer these terms or your rights under these terms, in whole or in part, without our prior written consent. We may assign these terms to a successor in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganisation, or sale of all or substantially all of our assets without your consent.

Force majeure

We will not be liable for any failure or delay in performing our obligations where the failure or delay results from any cause beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to acts of God, natural disasters, war, terrorism, pandemics, power failures, internet or telecommunications failures, government actions, or failures of third-party service providers (including data sources, payment processors, and cloud infrastructure).

The following sections survive termination or expiration of these terms: What you can't use Safi for, Accuracy and limitations, Intellectual property, Limitation of liability, Indemnification, Dispute resolution, Severability, Entire agreement, No waiver, and Assignment.
